Every day when I go out into the world, I am told how much I look like my Mum. I am so fortunate, for these are some of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.
My Mum is brave, intelligent, strong, passionate, kind, loving, confident, beautiful, self-aware, patient, intuitive, hilarious, light, bubbly, sophisticated, and the list goes on. I could honestly fill an entire book with all the wonderful things that she is. This year for Mother’s day, I am in New York, discovering what the world has to offer. So, as I cannot be with her on the day and cannot shower her with in-person-love until I am back, I decided to write her a love letter so that she knows how incredibly important she is to each of us, and that no matter the distance, we are celebrating her and all she does for us. We love you Mum!
You are my greatest role model. You have taught me how to be a woman of integrity and to always show compassion and kindness no matter the situation. You have taught me that forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give, not only to others, but most importantly to yourself. You have taught me that only I am responsible for my feelings and that I have the power to have the best day of my life every day that I live. You have taught me that the best way to learn is by allowing myself to fail. You have taught me to not be afraid of the unknown and to give everything and everyone a chance. Most importantly, you have taught me that finding myself; who I am, what I love, what makes me tick, is life’s longest journey, but how beautiful of a road it is. You have imparted your greatest life’s learnings on me, for which I am ever thankful.
I am blessed with your bright smile, voluminous hair, resounding optimism, and loud laugh. You have always encouraged my boundless energy, silly ways, and to pursue my passions. You’ve taught me how to do my own laundry (…we’re getting there), cook beautiful meals, shop till I drop, devour a great book, and dance like no one is watching. You are a style icon that could be my personal shopper, you make me laugh until tears are streaming down my face, and you are my true best friend.
Not only could I not live without you, half the world rely’s on your strength and love to help them through life. I have friends that turn to you for guidance when they most need it and you have friends that look at your as their true older sister, their voice of reason.
I still marvel at how I am the lucky one who got you as a Mum. Shawn, Stew, and I are the luckiest children on the planet. You are always there for us when we need a helping hand, you’re there to laugh with us when we need a good chuckle, and you’re there cheering us on from whatever side line we need you at. You would carry the weight of the world for us, hell, often you do! You put up with us when we’re being a total pain in your butt and you whip us into shape when we’re out of line. You always forgive us and you never bring up our wrong doings when you have the opportunity. You are an angel in our lives and we could not be more blessed.
I hope that I grow up to be just like you. One day, I hope to be as good as a mother as you have been. I hope to find a love as great as yours and Dad’s. I hope to inspire those around me as you do. I hope that I am as beautiful inside and out as you are. I hope that I live life to the fullest as you have. I hope, to be just like you in every way.
Thank you for always reminding me to bring a hat, to pack a snack (hanger is real), to arrive early, to double check my flight time, to colour code my closet, to do the dishes as you cook, to wear sunscreen, and so much more.
Thank you, Mum, for being the greatest Mummyo there could ever be. Happy Mothers Day!
Love you MILLIONS!
