When my friend Roberta asked me if I wanted to join her out in Whistler after Christmas I didn’t even have to think before saying yes. I was already having dreams about hitting the slopes.
Fresh powder, mountain air, and too many restaurants to count…I was about to find heaven!
I flew in to a sunny Vancouver and travelled up the sea to sky highway with my face stuck to the window. Islands covered in lush trees surrounded by royal blue waters glittered as the sun bounced off its surface. There’s not many drives along a highway that can take your breathe away, and this one will.
Upon arriving in Whistler, I became almost giddy at the site of fresh snow and big, glorious mountains. For an Ontario girl, mountains that big are very, very, exciting. I took a little wander around the village and got settled into our hotel before we caught up with some friends for drinks and grabbed ourselves some food.
Beacon Pub is a wonderful little place nestled into the heart of Whistler Village. If you are looking for a comfort meal, this is your place.
We quickly were sipping on glasses of Pinot Noir and attempting to pick just one main.
Roberta went with the Panko encrusted Fish and Chips and I had the Beacon burger – topped with pickled peppers (oh my god!).
It was so good that we went back a second time later that week. After being extraordinarily well taken care of that night, we tucked in to bed for an incredible next day on the slopes.
We woke to sunny sky’s and hot coffees. A perfect start if you ask me!
It felt so great to be on skis again. gliding along fresh snow, zipping through trees, the sun beaming down on us. It was so perfect!
Can you get over this view!? Its from the top of Blackbomb Mountain. I am still reminding myself that this was real.
7th Heaven is a run that run from the top of Backcomb giving you the most glorious views on the way down. While you wait for the lift, birds land on your helmet, your poles, anything. Its truly heavenly.
I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my first days in Whistler.
I’m looking to book another Ski vacation, have any recommendations? Comment below!
