I tend to look at December as a month of reflection. Between my birthday and the year coming to a close, I like to make a goal for the coming year. A mantra if you will. My calendar year tends to revolve round my birthday, instead of January 1st.
One of the ways that I find helps me make my new mantra, is through my reading and journaling. Even the most outrageous fiction novel helps me finesse what I want to achieve in the coming 12 months. It just get’s those creative juices flowing.
If you frequent Bubbly & Bold often, you will notice that every month I offer up my favourite reads from the month. These range from Fiction to Self Help, and beyond.
I have compiled my favourite reads of 2015 below for you to peruse, pick up, or gift to your nearest and dearest. I also have shared a little tidbit of what my mantra for the new age of 23 is looking like.
Seeings as there are 12 days of Christmas, why don’t I share my 12 favourite books of 2015?
12. In Style Magazine (I know it’s not a book – but its always so great!)
11. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling
10. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
9. Commencement by Courtney Sullivan
8. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
7. Silkworm by Robert Galbraith
6.The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
5. A Discovery of Witches Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
4. The Good Girl by Mary Kubica
3. It’s Just an F***ing Date by Greg Behrendt & Amiira Ruotola
2. All in Good Taste by Kate Spade
1.The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
I am not going to get into all of them, but if you just pick one, pick The Nightingale. It is my favourite book of all time, one I will read again, and one I am gifting to friends (its just that good!). I ordered the books from my favourite (1) to my almost favourite (12). Happy reading!
As for my ‘mantra for 23’, I want to enjoy more of what life has to bring. I want to trust that everything is always for the better. I want to take more moments to smell the flowers. I want to make crazy memories even if they scare me. I want to take pressure off of achieving and place more importance on happiness. In short, I want to live and enjoy what each day has to bring. This year, is a year to make unforgettable memories and enjoy life more. I know it sounds simple, but boy, is it tough some times.
Can anyone tell why I love this one a whole lot (there’s a few reasons)? It was a gift from my girl Carly – thanks boo!
What reads are you blustering through in front of the fire this Christmas? What are your thoughts on my mantra for 23? Care to share your mantra/goals?
